The foundation of building a brand starts with taking a new perspective. The world is constantly evolving, and with it, so are our thoughts and ideas. Our people share insights on various topics within the industry in hopes of discovering common bonds and sparking conversations.

Culture-centric companies win in the experience economy:

It has been almost 20 years since Joseph Pine and James Gilmore introduced the business world to the idea of the “experience economy.” This idea—that audiences buy experiences over products or services—is more relevant today than it has ever been. Experience drives business and buying decisions regardless of whether you are selling to other businesses or to consumers. Experience is your brand whether you realize it or not. The person answering the phone, the technician who fixes the glitch, the way you send an invoice, or the shelf your product is currently sitting on are all aspects of the overall brand experience and they are...

Let’s get real:

As humans, we like to celebrate the individuality, uniqueness and creativity of our family, friends and peers. We’re told to stay true to ourselves and develop the traits that best define our originality. But in a world full of social media platforms and trendy lifestyle blogs, how do we avoid comparing ourselves to others? How original is that seemingly perfect 20-something floral artist Instagrammer with a dream home and the ideal family, really? More importantly, how do we ensure we’re living our own, individual truths instead of imitating the facade that we see in our news feeds? Many people are facing these identity challenges individually....

You Had Me At Why:

Earlier this year, Intrinzic kicked off work with the 2017 class at the Brandery, a four-month accelerator program in Cincinnati for startups selected via a competitive application pool. As a brand mentor, we were paired with a startup company to provide branding and marketing advice and resources as they worked towards their pitch to investors. We were matched with a Brandery startup through a speed dating exercise where we had 15 minutes with each company for them to introduce themselves and their idea and for us to explain what we do. We each then ranked our top picks and were paired accordingly. My colleagues and...

Overcoming the fear of presenting:

In Cincinnati, we just celebrated Design Week, an AIGA-sponsored event where creative come together to share insights, inspiration and stories. I was most excited to hear from keynote speaker Ashleigh Axios, whose resume is pretty incredible—in addition to working for some amazing companies, she was also the creative director for THE WHITE HOUSE. Axios started off the event by telling us that public speaking wasn’t her favorite thing to do—asking us to just laugh if she stumbles a bit, and letting us know that she was sure to warm up as the presentation went on. I didn’t expect that someone who presented to POTUS would...

The Universe Doesn’t Care About Your Brand:

My first encounter with the idea of “brand” as something more than just a logo was during a summer internship at PBS. My desk was in a storage room made into a makeshift office within the broadcaster’s Alexandria, Virginia headquarters. This was long before Google Alerts, and every morning I would scan through a stack of newspapers from major cities across the US for news about anything PBS. One of my duties was to compile the daily press clippings, make copies of them, and deliver them to the organization’s executives and the marketing leaders who worked in my division, Brand Management. The place was exactly...

What would Eddie do?

A few weeks ago, I had the chance to interview Larry Tye, author of The Father of Spin – Edward L. Bernays and the Birth of Public Relations. Bernays’ work moved the profession from press agentry to a practice supported by science—the pioneering psychology research done by none other than Bernays’ uncle, Sigmund Freud. Bernays’ campaigns blended the art and science of PR brilliantly and had a tremendous influence on American life. He utilized doctors as influencers to tell Americans that a healthy breakfast should include eggs and bacon; encouraged the home construction industry to add bookcases to homes to encourage people to buy more...

Channeling my inner entrepreneur:

I once was in a job interview, and the interviewer asked me, “What makes you different then anyone else that applies for this job? What sort of books do you read?” Needless to say a Nicholas Sparks novel wasn’t what he was looking for. He wanted to know, what do I do that continues to feed my curiosity and make me stand out among my peers? His question has stuck with me for years, as I’ve come to better understand the challenges of staying motivated and inspired as I work towards my career and life goals. For me, the boom in podcasts has made it...

One perfect shot:

Imagine: you’ve gathered the perfect team. The weather is forecasted to be partly cloudy in the low 70s. The models are all on time. The food is ordered. The equipment is set up and working properly. The subject matter—a mint condition 1967 Ford Mustang is…uh oh. Where’s the car? If one piece of this delicate puzzle is missing, the whole photoshoot could fall apart. Tens of thousands of dollars to capture these few shots, and it could all go down the drain. Try again tomorrow? Well, the photographer is booked tomorrow, it looks like it is supposed to rain, and we have six other shots...

The Intern Asks the CEO:

Written By: Anna Meyer, Marketing Communication Intern Before the end of my internship at Intrinzic, I sat down with our CEO, Wendy Vonderhaar, to talk about her own personal experience with transforming her dreams into a career path to follow. For Wendy, that dream was starting and running a business. As a fourth-year student at the University of Cincinnati (UC), it is very important for me to visualize my career path. In fact, “where do you see yourself in your career path?” was one of the questions asked in my interview for a shot as an intern at Intrinzic. I have heard many peers answer...

Building Collaborative Brands:

Back in 2006, two fisherman brothers is Austin, Texas were frustrated with how quickly ice melted in their coolers during a long day on the lake. They decided to do something about it, and they created a product that revolutionized an entire industry. The company came to be known as Yeti, and in 2016 alone they increased their market value by over 500%. This is a story we’ve heard countless times before. Reed Hastings hated paying late fees on video rentals, and went on to found Netflix, which revolutionized the video rental business. Brian Chesky and Joe Gebbia could not afford the rent for their...
