Construction Safety Week is an annual awareness event that encompasses the entire construction industry across the United States and Canada. It was started in 2014, when more than 40 national and global construction firms joined forces with a single aim: to inspire everyone in the industry to be leaders in safety. Since partnering with Intrinzic in 2016, Safety Week has become formally branded and taken shape as a fully-integrated annual campaign that continues to grow year after year.

Brand & Website Strategy

The Safety Week brand was constantly evolving and taking on a new look, tone and feel every year. In 2020, we had the opportunity to examine the brand at its core and develop a unified brand identity system and narrative that elevates their mission and creates consistency across campaigns both verbally and visually.

Each Safety Week campaign is also built around a different theme that aims to emphasize a specific topic or area to focus their efforts to improve safety industrywide. For every campaign, our team develops the theme, story and supporting graphic elements, which are activated across marketing communications and collateral, planning resources and engagement tactics throughout the year.

While Safety Week is only a week-long event, their website lives year-round and needs to be updated regularly. We continuously reevaluate the structure, functionality and content throughout the year to make sure the most up-to-date information is available and the site is optimized for usability.

Construction Safety Week Supporters

One of the main goals in 2024 was to grow our supporter base. We wanted to showcase the value in becoming a Safety Week member, sponsor or advocate, but also simplify the process to register. In addition to creating a value proposition and solicitation campaign to gain supporters earlier in the year, we revamped the registration platform to an automated system on the website so companies could easily sign up and submit payment online. We also redesigned the webpage to be more transparent about how to support Safety Week and the benefits associated with each support level.

03 | 2024 Campaign Value Every Voice

2024 Campaign Theme and Strategy

Every year, Safety Week is an opportunity for the industry to come together and celebrate their commitment to safety. But 2024 was a special year as it marked Safety Week’s 10th Anniversary. We developed the campaign theme “Value Every Voice,” which showcases the dedication to creating a strong safety culture that encourages and values every voice. The theme was elevated in all communication and tactics, including the website, email and social, planning resources, PR and media, and more. We also promoted a series of short videos celebrating Safety Week's 10th Anniversary across all channels.

Value Every Voice

The safety and success of any construction project is determined by the individual decisions and actions of every team member.

Each person on the job, regardless of their role, has a deep responsibility to take initiative, accountability, and personal ownership in keeping their team and job site safe. We must work to create an environment that encourages communication, teamwork, sharing of ideas and perspectives, and a commitment to listening and embracing every voice. This not only builds trust and confidence in every individual, it also deepens respect, unity, and understanding within teams at all levels.

Everyone is empowered to use their voice, but voices only matter if they’re heard. When it comes to safety, nothing is more important than listening, understanding and embracing what is communicated in the workplace. This is how we create the foundation for a culture that empowers and values every voice, and ensures everyone in every role feels seen, heard, and supported.

Positive change is the collective effort of every company, project team, and individual. One decision can change an entire project, one incident can change an entire team, one voice can inspire many more that can change an entire industry. And it takes the commitment, determination, and confidence in each and every one of us to create a strong safety culture that will impact our career, families, community, and industry for generations to come.

2024 Giveaway Campaign & Strategy

In an effort to engage workers, families and companies across the industry, we also issued the My Voice, My Vote Giveaway, which participants entered via the website. We asked people to vote for why valuing every voice matters to them the most, and tell us about their personal commitment to value every voice in safety for a chance to win one of ten grand prizes. A custom portal was built on the website that included the voting submission form, a vote tracking ticker, a leaderboard to track and rank company participation, and a live submission feed.

the ask

We are seeking participation from workers and companies across the construction industry to vote for why valuing every voice matters to them the most, and tell us about their personal commitment to value every voice in safety.

the opportunity

Safety Week is a chance to bring together an entire industry and celebrate the people who are inspired, motivated and united by an unwavering commitment to safety. Last year, we had huge success with the Strong Voices, Safe Choices Pledge. This campaign came to life on a custom-built portal on our website that asked people across the construction industry to pledge their commitment to use their voice and make safe choices in order to build a strong safety culture. This year, we want to build on that success by focusing on our efforts to build a culture that encourages, embraces and values every voice when it comes to safety. This is our opportunity to show that ensuring everyone in every role feels their voice is heard and supported helps us create a culture of trust, ownership, and confidence at all levels. This also provides an opportunity to highlight 2024’s Value Every Voice theme by elevating the individual, project team, and company contributions that drive our collective success as an industry.
